What are Stretch Tents and Hybrid Marquees
Stretch Tents and Marquees are temporary or semi-permanent structures, made from flexible yet waterproof high-tech fabric. They are most commonly referred to as Stretch Tents and occasionally as ‘Freeform‘, ‘Bedouin’ or ‘Nomadic’ tents. These terms point to their origin in Africa, where our tents are still manufactured to this day. However, the modern stretch tent is a completely new and innovative tent system. They are either freestanding and held up by internal poles, or partly attached to existing structures. Integration into the existing framework provided by buildings and gardens is one of the many unrivalled strength of this tent system.
Why use Stretch Tents and Marquees
For many years, the Events-Market has been dominated by traditional marquees. Their rectangular shape imitates that of a hall and they are made from flat PVC. They fulfil their purpose well, however, the uniform walls and ceiling fail to create much of an atmosphere. In contrast, Stretch Marquees fill us with awe and joy as we enter and the visitor’s eye is drawn to the beautifully complex shapes of the structure. Adding to that is their natural affinity to lighting. For examples, have a look at the picture Gallery.
The easiest places to pitch stretch marquees are flat, unsealed areas, where we can drive anchor pegs in the ground. In the urban environment however, where driving pegs is not possible, we use weights to anchor to. By using a variation of pole length, we can create a great looking installation on uneven terrain. For example where the stretch tents reach over part of a planted garden or incorporate several levels of a terraced garden. This is another situation, where the stretch tents have a great advantage over the traditional marquee, as only stretch tents can be set up on such uneven terrain, as for example in this amphitheater on the image below.
What is unique about Flexitenz
One of the many great features of the Flexitenz Stretch marquees is the option to connect several tents together. Due to this unique, yet simple system, we can easily create large covered space for hundreds of people. Further, it allows us to seamlessly work around corners. The jointing system is paired with a fully integrated internal gutter, which drains the water away from the tent. In combination with the stretchy nature of the fabric, we have almost limitless flexibility in configurations. Hence we can work with the prevailing weather conditions. This means either having the stretch tents totally open or closing down some sides. With the use of side walls, the tents can be partly or entirely enclosed, be it for weather or privacy reasons. We also offer clear side walls, allowing your guests to stay connected with the outside environment or simply enjoy the vistas.
